[ANGLÈS] Long length tunnels are every day more and more common, they are becoming more a necessity
of most high speed railways than a milestone in engineery history. A great deal of
researches in the young railway transport sector, and also, the experience gained on the service
of the Shinkansen Line, which was opened to the public in 1964, in Japan, and later
followed by France, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Italy and Spain, and after; recommend
the construction of long tunnels in order to avoid problems and constrains which are
caused by the orography, and to submit to the restrictive parameters which are required in
this kind of lines.
High speed circulation reachs speeds from 200 km/h to 300 km/h, and in the future the trains
are planned to achieve a top speed of 350 km/h, due to this fact we have to take into account
restrictive parameters such as, less steeped ramps, huge radius of the benchs, furthermore,
the appearance of new phenomena, which were no noticeable at lower speed, below 200 km/h;
such as, drive resistance and the sudden changes of pressure when going through the tunnel,
or as the “schotterflug”, which was utterly unexpected and made to the Japanese lines to take
steps in order to fix up the railway situation. All these factors, let us see that the best option
to cross through any mountain range is the long length tunnel, whose cross section has to be
95m2 and that it should be on a lower height. On the other hand, we would have to construct
a string of viaducts, embankments and a bigger number of shorter higher tunnels, which in
a short term may give the impression that is more economic, even though, the long-term
maintenance has worse conditions on this sort of line.
The construction of tunnel is one of the most challenging and complex works in engineery, in
spite of the fact that a great ammount of geological and geotechnical studies are conducted
previously, you never can be completely sure about what are you going to find in the next step.
This is why, it is so interesting the study of the steps required to carry out the construction
of the tunnel. From the mere idea, when the points to be connected by the line have to be
chosen, to the construction, passing through the main points of the process, and analising the
phenomena that define the parameters which constrain the structure design its final shape.
We will also try to define the construction methods used and the way they should be conducted,
as so the topographic, geological and geotechnic information required during the
construction process. |

constructivo. |
