La toma de decisiones basada en los datos es un compromiso político de la Unión Europea que incluye medicina personalizada, sistemas de salud más eficientes y envejecimiento activo y bienestar. La protección de las personas a través de la salvaguarda de sus datos personales es tarea de los comités de ética de la investigación en el campo de la investigación biomédica. Las pautas que se establecieron en ética de la investigación en personas de investigación biomédica en la sociedad analógica son en gran medida ineficaces en la sociedad digital. Actualmente, hemos dejado de ser anónimos para ser reidentificables debido a la gran cantidad de datos acumulados en diferentes bases de datos. El artículo analiza los principios, derechos y garantías que establece el Reglamento General de Protección de Datos para llegar a conclusiones y propuestas con el fin de establecer los requisitos que los comités de ética en investigación deben evaluar y revisar en la investigación e innovación en el ámbito biomédico para la debida protección de las personas. Además, el trabajo revisa la naturaleza y composición de los comités de ética en investigación. El objetivo es contribuir al debate doctrinal e incidir en la actividad diaria de los comités de ética en investigación. The article analyses the challenges posed using emerging technologies and personal data in health research and innovation and the changes that must therefore occur in the evaluation processes carried out by the research ethics committees. Data-driven decision making is a political commitment of the European Union that includes personalized medicine, more efficient healthcare systems and active ageing and wellbeing. Protecting individuals through the protection of their personal data is the task of the research ethics committees in the field of biomedical research. The guidelines that were established in research ethics in biomedical research people in the analogical society are largely ineffective in the digital society. Nowadays, we have stopped being anonymous to be reidentifiable due to the vast amount of data accumulated in different databases. Thus, the article examines the principles, rights and guarantees that the General Data Protection Regulation establishes to reach conclusions and proposals in order to found the requirements that the research ethics committees must evaluate and check in research and innovation in the biomedical field for the proper protection of individuals. In addition, the work reviews the nature and composition of the research ethics committees. The goal is to contribute to the doctrinal debate and to have an impact in the daily activity of research ethics committees.
