<mods:abstract>The urge for energy generation decarbonization has led to a massive integration of renewable energy systems in both large-scale centralized and small-distributed generation plants. This integration resulted in a huge decrease in conventional generation systems, which led the power system to an enormous decrease in the total inertia of the system, raising some concerns about the stability of the electrical network. With these issues, grid operators have foreseen the need to monitor and control the inertia of the grid-connected units, allowing them to decide on changes to ensure a good dynamic behaviour and a stable grid operation. This paper presents a data-driven method that uses real-time measurements given by an Inertia Phase Locked Loop system (IPLL) to estimate the equivalent inertia support of the generation units connected to the grid. This system can be used to automatically estimate the inertia capacity of units and to detect changes in the dynamic behaviour of these units. This paper has been supported under the grant PID2023-147851OB-I00 promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the ”Siemens Energy AI Chair: Energy Sustainability for a Decarbonized Society” (TSI- 100930-2023-5), funded by the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence through the ENIA 2022 Chairs call, and co-funded by the European Union-Next Generation EU.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version)</mods:abstract>
