<dcterms:abstract>The Ordinacions are a city-founding and territorial planning for the "Part Forana" of Mallorca (the entire territory of the island that does not belong to the city of Palma). They were drafted by King Jaume II in the year 1300 with the aim of establishing new towns and promoting agricultural development. The Ordinacions represent a population settlement plan involving the subdivision of both urban and rural territory, and they sought to correct economic and demographic imbalances. Jaume II appointed a group of "ordinadors" (administrators) responsible for selecting the locations of the new towns, as well as assigning and taxing the lands where the new settlers would establish. The new towns exhibit an orthogonal urban morphology, drawing their most recent historical reference from the French bastides of the 12th century. The architectural typology of the dwellings in these towns follows common patterns that have endured throughout history.</dcterms:abstract>
