      <subfield code="a">Investment and operating costs in security filters are significant financial concerns in airport infrastructure management. Therefore, analysing and balancing both types of expenditure (investment and operation) is crucial. Previous studies have dealt with a concept known as CAPEX-bias, which occurs in situations where infrastructure investment exceeds the limit which an economic efficiency criterion would recommend. This research project proposes scheduling airport security investments to avoid this bias. A total cost model for investment and operation (TOTEX) of airport security filters, applied to different scheduling scenarios over a 15-year planning horizon, is proposed. This model considers the additional costs of investment and operation. The results indicate that the most appropriate planning segments vary depending on whether there is an excess (CAPEX-bias) or a defect of capacity. After analysing the different scenarios, the solution of working with defect of capacity proves to be the most efficient both economically and operationally. The applied model and the results which have been obtained show that balancing investment and operating costs in security filters can lead to an investment scheduling which improves an airport's economic efficiency.</subfield>
