<dc:description>The Tordera River Catchment is an important river basin in the Catalonia region
of north-eastern Spain. The area has been subject to numerous studies and
research projects, particularly in relation to water management and hydrological
processes. The purpose of this thesis is to present a detailed analysis of the
Tordera River Catchment, with a focus on the hydrological modelling of its
discharge using the MIKE SHE modelling system. This modelling system is a
state-of-the-art software package that allows for the detailed simulation of
hydrological processes in complex watersheds.
The objectives of this thesis are to:
Provide a comprehensive description of the Tordera River Catchment, including
its geological and hydrological characteristics.
Explain how the hydrological rainfall-runoff models works and the different
options.
Use the MIKE SHE modelling system to simulate the discharge of the Tordera
River and assess the accuracy of the model through various evaluation criteria.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the MIKE SHE modelling system for the Tordera
River Catchment and provide recommendations for future research and water
management practices in the area.
To achieve these objectives, this thesis is structured into four parts. Part I
provides an introduction to the study, including its objectives and methodology.
Part II provides an overview of hydrologic rainfall-runoff modelling, with a focus
on the types of models and the MIKE SHE modelling system. Part III presents the
details of the hydrologic modelling of the Tordera River Catchment using the
MIKE SHE system, including the model building, calibration, verification, and test
set up. Finally, Part IV includes appendices that provide additional information on
the modelling process, as well as references, figures, and tables used throughout
the thesis.
Overall, this thesis aims to contribute to a better understanding of the hydrological
processes in the Tordera River Catchment, and to provide insights into the use
of advanced modelling techniques for the management of water resources in the
region.</dc:description>
