XX -- Romania Para entender la arquitectura de Duiliu Marcu en su etapa moderna, es esencial hacer un estudio previo del contexto histórico y arquitectónico que atravesó su país, Rumania, durante los más de 50 años que duro su actividad profesional. A través del contexto previo que tenemos podemos entender la evolución política, artística y cultural que sufrió el país. Con la independencia del imperio otomano y el impulso de crear un estilo propio y tradicional apareció el estilo neo-rumano y más adelante llego a Europa el movimiento moderno. Duiliu Marcu supo adaptarse de forma exitosa a estas épocas de cambio y así lo reflejo en su arquitectura. Por eso con el análisis de 10 de sus obras de su época moderna, incluyendo uno de los últimos trabajos de estilo tradicional, el pabellón rumano de la exposición universal de Barcelona del 1929, se pretende entender mejor sus obras y el salto que dio hacia el movimiento moderno. Los proyectos se analizan de forma cronológica, siguiendo el esquema de contexto, composición y construcción. Esto esclarecerá como su enfoque evolucionó a lo largo del tiempo y como influyeron en ello los factores externos como el contexto histórico y político. In order to understand Duiliu Marcu’s architecture in its modern phase, it is essential to make a prior study of the historical and architectural context that his country, Romania, went through during the more than 50 years of his professional activity. Through the previous context we can understand the political, artistic and cultural evolution that the country underwent. With the independence from the Ottoman Empire and the impulse to create his own traditional style, the neo-romanian style appeared and later the Modern Movement arrived in Europe. Duiliu Marcu was able to adapt successfully to these changing times and reflected this in his architecture. Therefore, the analysis of 10 of his works from his modern period, including one of his last works in the traditional style, the Romanian Pavilion at the 1929 Barcelona World’s Fair, is intended to provide a better understanding of his works and the leap he made towards the modern movement. The projects are analysed chronologically, following the scheme of context, composition and construction.
