<mods:abstract>It is well known that boundary layer effects cannot be adequately represented on a coarse mesh. Resolving this local phenomena requires either increased mesh refinement as well as a higher computational cost. In the following work, an analytic enrichment of the finite element method will be introduced. In the proposed method, knowledge about the nature of the solution is built into the local approximation leading to a high degree of accuracy, and greatly improved efficiency avoiding a mesh refinement.</mods:abstract>
