Con ello en mente, este trabajo conduce un análisis contrastivo de la traducción de Cortázar del cuento The Fall of the House of Usher, uno de los cuentos más estudiados y reconocidos de Poe, con la traducción del mismo cuento por Francisco Torres Oliver publicada en 2015, enfocándose en las decisiones de cada traductor concernientes al léxico, las sintaxis y los recursos fonoestilísticos del texto. Los resultados son testimonio de la precisión de Torres Oliver y evidencian varios errores de Cortázar, aunque a la vez destacan el talento del argentino para adaptar las cualidades sonoras del texto origen a la lengua meta. Julio Cortázar's translation of Edgar Allan Poe's short stories is to date, after almost seven decades, the most widely republished in the Spanish-speaking world; however, it has attracted little research or analysis. With this in mind, the present paper conducts a contrastive analysis of Cortázar's translation of The Fall of the House of Usher, one of Poe's most studied and recognised short stories, with Francisco Torres Oliver's translation of the same story published in 2015, focusing on each translator's decisions concerning the lexicon, syntax and phono-stylistic resources of the text. The results testify to Torres Oliver's precision and highlight several of Cortázar's errors, while also highlighting the Argentinian's talent for adapting the sonorous qualities of the source text to the target language.
