Este artículo propone, en cambio, una primera revisión de la obra pictórica de Preciado, que hasta ahora ha suscitado un escaso interés. Se subraya la total «romanización» de su pintura y se intenta esbozar su trayectoria dentro del contexto del romano del Setecientos. Se utilizan algunas fuentes documentales y biográficas hasta ahora desatendidas y se amplía su catálogo, con notícias inéditas sobre obras conservadas o perdidas. Entre sus pinturas olvidadas cabe destacar, por ejemplo, el San Ildefonso recibiendo la casulla de la Virgen (1771) procedente de la iglesia de Santiago y San Ildefonso, hoy en el palacio de Montserrato (Roma). Francisco Preciado de la Vega is remembered above all as the first director of the pensionates in Rome by the Academy of San Fernando and as the author of a treatise on painting, the Arcadia Pictórica (Madrid, 1789). This paper offers, however, a new approximation to Preciado's pictorial oeuvre, to which the historiography has devoted until now a little interest. We underlines the total «romanization» of his painting and intend to outline his artistic trajectory within the eigtheenth century roman context. We use several documental and biographical sources until now neglected and adds several items to his catalogue, with new data about preserved or lost pieces, and also with references to engravings after Preciado's originals. Among his forgetted paintigs we can stand out, for example, the St. Ildefonso receiving the chasuble (1771), coming from the church of Santiago and Ildefonso and now in the palace of Montserrato (Rome).
