Aquest article vol aportar i sistematitzar informacions referides a la forma occitana ièrla (que és un resultat fonèticament interessant del llatí INSULA i que s’utilitza per designar terrenys d’al·luvió o, en tot cas, situats al costat de l’aigua), i també a d’altres descendents del llatí INSULA, amb aplicacions toponímiques similars en el domini occità, i especialment en la zona oriental del Pirineu gascó −sobretot a la Vall d’Aran i al Comenge. El treball considera també els fets fonètics que donen compte de l’especial fesomia d’aquest vocable occità, en relació amb les petites variacions articulatòries locals que es produeixen a la Vall d’Aran i els pobles immediats del departament de l’Alta Garona.
This article seeks to provide a systematic review of references to the Occitan form ièrla (a phonetically interesting derivation of the Latin word INSULA and which is used to refer to alluvial plains or lands located near water), as well as that of other derivatives of the Latin word INSULA, with similar toponymic uses in the Occitan-language domain, above all in the eastern part of the Gascon Pyrenees - especially in the Val d'Aran and the Comenge. The study also considers the phonetic transformations that account for the unusual physiognomy of this Occitan word, above all in relation to the small local articulatory variations that are recorded in the Val d'Aran and the nearby villages of the département of Haute-Garonne.
