<dc:description>Introduction: According to the WHO, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects
between 8% and 13% of women of reproductive age worldwide. In fact, it is
considered the most common endocrine disorder in women within this age group and
one of the leading causes of infertility. Women with PCOS have an increased risk of
developing metabolic syndromes, including hyperglycemia, insulin resistance,
hypertension, obesity, and dyslipidemia, as well as mental health disorder such as
depression and anxiety.
Despite its high prevalence and its significant impact on both physical and emotional
health, no specific pharmacological treatment currently exists for PCOS. In 98% of
cases, oral contraceptives are used as the primary therapeutic approach. However,
scientific evidence emphasizes that healthy lifestyle is a fundamental pillar in the
management of PCOS.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a health education program focused on
health eating in improving well-being and quality of life of women diagnosed with
polycystic ovary syndrome.
Methodology: A randomized controlled clinical trial involving women diagnosed with
PCOS, all residing in the province of Girona. The research will be carried out by
consist a multidisciplinary team composed of nurses, nutritionists, and psychologists,
all specialized in community health and sexual and reproductive health.
The study will consist of three phases: initial assessment of the sample, followed by a
seven-week intervention phase, and concludes with a ten-month follow-up phase.
At the start, all participants will attend an individual, in-person consultation at the
ASSIR unit of Santa Clara Primary Care Center (CAP). This initial visit will include a
clinical anamnesis, blood tests, a nutritional assessment, and a psycho-emotional
evaluation.
The intervention program is designed according to a biopsychosocial model, taking
into account the age, cultural background, and socioeconomic context of the
participants</dc:description>
