This contribution develops the 7th idea out of the 10 Big Ideas that were defined within
the document Alfabetización en Ciencias de la Tierra (Pedrinaci et al., 2013). In particular,
we address the content related to the “External geological processes that transform the
Earth surface”. While developing this topic, we will also refer to guidelines 3, 4, and 9 of
the mentioned document devoted to the following topics: “Origin and transformation of
Earth materials”, “Water and air turn the Earth into a special planet”, and “Some natural
processes involve risks for humankind”. In this paper, we do not intend to furnish a detailed
description of the external geological processes. Our main goal consists in offering a clear
and structured perspective of the main concepts for their further treatment in classEste texto desarrolla la idea 7 de la propuesta de 10 ideas clave contenidas en el
documento sobre Alfabetización en Ciencias de la Tierra (Pedrinaci et al., 2013). En
concreto, despliega los contenidos del epígrafe “Los procesos geológicos externos
transforman la superficie terrestre”. Inevitablemente, al tratar este tema, también nos
referiremos a las ideas clave 3, 4, y 9 de dicho documento que se centran respectivamente
en “Los materiales de la Tierra se originan y modifican de forma continua”, “El agua y
el aire hacen de la Tierra un planeta especial” y “Algunos procesos naturales implican
riesgos para la humanidad”. Los objetivos de este artículo no pretenden abordar una
descripción exhaustiva de los procesos externos. Nuestro principal propósito es ofrecer
una visión panorámica clara y estructurada de aquellos conceptos más relevantes en su
tratamiento docente
