Análisis de la representación de la mujer indígena en el New York Times durante 2019

Esta investigación tiene como objetivo principal realizar un análisis de la
representación de las mujeres indígenas como víctimas de violencia machista en Estados
Unidos. De esta forma, se pretende hacer un análisis semiótico del discurso de las piezas
publicadas en el periódico The New York Times durante el año 2019, pues durante este año
se presentó en el Congreso estadounidense el acta Not Invisible Act of 2019 por la senadora
Lisa Murkowski. Con este acta se acentuó la necesidad de una respuesta política para los
femicidios y tasas de violencia que enfrenta la comunidad indígena. Sin embargo, la
existencia de discursos feministas hegemónicos -que solo basan sus demandas en la
experiencia de la mujer blanca burguesa- (Fraser, 2019) de los últimos años evidencia la
obligación de establecer líneas de interseccionalidad en la investigación sobre violencia hacia
las mujeres. Así, el estudio presentado intenta saciar esta carencia, aportando diferentes
miradas sobre las múltiples discriminaciones que sufren mujeres que pocas veces son tratadas
como sujetos políticos del feminismo.
In this article we analyze the portrayal of indigenous women that are victims of
gender violence in the United States. In order to study this subject, we will make a
semio–narrative analysis of the informative articles published in the New York Times during
2019, being this year the one when the Not Invisible Act of 2019 was presented in the
Congress by the senator Lisa Murkowski. In this act, they highlighted the need for political
intervention in regards to the Femicide and violence rates that the indigenous people were
facing. Albeit, the presence of an hegemonic perspective in feminist speeches -which only
demands rights in order to white middle-class women experiences- from past years (Fraser,
2019) reveal the requirement of establishing intersectional standpoints in future researches
about violence against women. Thus, this study looks to fulfill the lack, adding different
angles to multiple discriminations that women suffer and, beside this, hardly ever are treated
as political subjects of feminism.
