<subfield code="a">The translation of documents regulating international adoption processes is essential to boost legal adoption processes and reduce the number of illegal adoptions in order for the prospective adoptive parents to have a full understanding of the steps they have to follow. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the differences between legal English and legal Spanish discourse, as well as to cknowledge the style of regulating /ndocuments of both languages and establishing certain characteristics of this discourse /nwhich can lead to translation problems. This paper also comprises some of the EnglishSpanish differences between legal and political systems and which effect do they have /non translation. In order to accomplish this task, the body of this paper consists of a basic /ntranslation analysis which includes a classification of linguistic matters (lexical and /nmorphological) and cultural matters. The results of this study show that, broadly speaking, linguistic problems tend to be resolved using a dictionary or following a legal style manual while the solution for a cultural problem depends on the assignment. To conclude, it is argued that when translating specialised documents it is crucial to acquire /nspecialised knowledge on the subject and to be aware of the communicative situation.</subfield>
