ENGLISH: This TFG part of an unpublished doctoral thesis and previous TFG. Teachers and doctorates that make part of research group GICITED (Grup Interdisciplinar de Ciència i Tecnologia a l'Edificació) at the UPC, are working together to develop a bio-based insulation materials, using agricultural by-products and organic binders of natural origin. The panel consists of fiber extracted by corn stem (pith) bonded with alginate, a natural gum from algae, both materials are biodegradable and can be composted once their life span as a construction material is ended.
This work will try to analyze the possibility of using this material in external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS).
The objective of this performance is to analyze the functioning of external thermal insulation composite sistems and comparing a system incorporating a corn pith alginate insulation and one that incorporates an expanded polystyrene insulation.
Initially, a research on the existing ETICS will be carried out. Once acquired knowledge of the systems, two external thermal insulation composite systems using corn pith and expanded polystyrene will be studied. To analyze how these systems work a dynamic thermal test will be used. The samples will be subjected to dayly cycles in which the temperature and the relative humidity will be changed.
Moreover, the compativility of the insulation materials with four different coatings will be tested. To this aim, the samples will be subjected to accelerated aging cycles during which the mass change will be monitored. The cohesion and the water absorption of the systems will be tested before and after the test. |
