Board and card games long had a place in society's recreational activities. Nevertheless, they are now losing popularity at a time where electronic devices, such as gaming cons oles, are more popular than ever. Digitalizing these games will undoubtedly help producers of board and card games to regain a share of the market and what is more, they may bring some diversity into the way that people choose to relax. The 21st century ha s produced numerous technologies that will allow us to reach this goal, e.g. Capacitive sensing, RFID and Infrared. Despite the fact that RFID and Infrared are both viable candidates, their manufacturing costs and size often make them unsuitable for commer cial products that have to be durable and cheap to make. Capacitive sensing, however, is the primary technology used in touch - screens today, and combining this technology with conductive ink and/or printable contact points has enabled capacitive touch - scre ens to recognize objects as if they were multi touch events. Foldable screens can be equipped with this technology to recreate traditional board games and elevate them to a new digital level. Additionally, they may encourage manufacturers to create new exc iting games. Board and card games have been reinvented using technology that was not originally meant to be used in this fashion and thus they have been given a chance to secure a position in the modern market. Technology will, without a doubt, only improv e and soon we will be able to use OLED technology to create rollable and bendable screens that will transform the way we play these games. |
