Safety analysis and operational procedure de nition for the CERN-MEDICIS project Hot-Cell waste management

This report aims to nd out what is the best operational procedure for the disposal of the MEDICIS' Hot Cell waste. The new Hot Cell is going to manipulate samples with a high level of radioactivity. The nal repository of this waste is yet to be de ned and di erent possibilities have been explored. Throughout this document each option will be analyzed in order to attain the best possible compromise between safety and feasibility. The physics involved will be described and its analysis will be supported by the particle physics Monte- Carlo transport code FLUKA, which will be used to perform simulations which on the Hot-Cell shielding capability, and assess the radioactive exposure to personnel under the di erent operational procedures proposed.
