Nowadays, ocean observation appears prominently in major international research programs and environmental management. The ocean has a great potential as a supplier of energy services and natural resources, and occupies a central role in regulating climate and global biogeochemical cycles. The need to monitor the processes taking place through the acquisition of data for subsequent processing becomes thus clear. Besides, the use of platforms for data acquisition has evolved over the years, offering many new possibilities. Currently, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV) are the main ones in this area. Thanks to its characteristics, in term of features and small sizes, they offer a high capacity to adapt and access to environments, which otherwise it would be impossible to explore. Considering this context, the project main objective consist in design and develop software tools to data management and control quality, and the automated generation of technical and scientific reports. This project born in collaboration with the 'Unitat de Tecnologia Marina' of 'Centre Mediterrani d'Investigacions Marines i Ambientals' (CMIMA-CSIC) under activities of this research group and several new R+D lines, related with the vehicles themselves. The focus is put on small payload integration, data management (reporting, data archiving, metadata integration, etc..) and data Quality Control. The developed software will be a free software tool available to scientific community. |
