ENG: The building envelope is responsible for much of the user comfort and energy costs of the
building. You can project an envelope with different objectives but now, in times of rethinking
the building, it is very important the issue of thermal comfort and energy efficiency. In a
subtropical climate the main concern of an architect with these environmental perspectives is
to design a building that works well both in summer as in winter, a difficult challenge once the
materials do not work the same way in the heat and cold. The aim of this study was to
evaluate the influence of different types of vertical exterior walls in the comfort of houses in
southern Brazil. Therefore, a model of house has been simulated with the software Design
Builder, after this the results were compared with levels of comfort and performance
requirements of Brazil. Simulations were made with different thermal characteristics walls
trying to exploit the most of the thermal properties of the materials. The results show that
conventional brick plus outer insulation of 5 centimeters has the best performance among the
six elected exterior walls. |
