The aim of this project is to improve and optimize the performance of a
racecar simulator (rFactor) used by the PonsRacing team to prepare and train
pilots for their races in the World Series By Renault 3.5 championship. We
understand improve and optimize as making the simulator as equal as
possible to the real racecar.
First, we have improved the image and vision the pilot has of the simulator.
The simulator is made of 3 projectors and during the project we have worked
with the software Nthusim to modify and adapt the image that is projected, so
we can enhance the realism experienced by the pilot while inside the cockpit
of the simulator.
Second, we have studied the internal files of the rFactor that run the vehicle's
main aerodynamics, we have understood how they behave, characterized
their equations and obtained the values we have to assign them in order to
make them agree with the real vehicle.
Finally, we have worked with the internal files for the tyres and studied its
more determinant parameters. Those parameters have been characterized in
a mathematical model by an empirical fit. In order to introduce values that are
as similar to the real racecar as possible, we have used the Pacejka graphs
done by the PonsRacing team. |
