The development of faster processors for computer is depending at the moment on optimizing the heat removal. This is the motivation for the Center of Smart Interfaces to do research in this field. Cooling, using two phase flow through a porous medium is a new method of improving the efficiency. The aim of this study is to improve this method and show the possible advantage compared to conventional cooling systems. The test rig was designed in a student project and is close to the real application. It still needs some improvement to produce repeatable results. There are different porous media available to be tested in the setup. New samples can also be produced, eg. with laser sintering. The final goal is to find the best combination of liquid, gas and porous medium for cooling. The focus is on the design of the porus medium. Tasks: Improve experimental setup. Design and order new samples (eg. Laser sintering). Perform experiments (eg. different Flowrates) and measure Heat Flux. Propose the optimal porous media design. Compare with other cooling systems. |
