The main goal of this research internship is to determine whether an electric utility as CNR could take advantage of electric vehicles by using their batteries to regulate its electricity production. The idea is to develop a system that could compensate for the high variability of
wind-power-generated electricity by taking control of the batteries while they are charging,
and by setting their charge rate accordingly. This stability would bring benefits both to the
electric utility and to the grid operator. We proceeded by analysing different possible
partnership solutions with EV-related companies.
This project started by collecting an important amount of information on both EV’s and the electric grid system. It continued with brainstorming meetings and feasibility calculations. |
