Description, analysis and calculation of pneumatic brake system used in a freight train using a specific example
Costa Cabanillas, Xavier
A freight train or goods train is a group of freight cars (US) or goods wagons (UIC) hauled by a locomotive on a railway, ultimately transporting cargo between two points as part of the logistics chain. Trains may haul bulk, intermodal containers or specialized cars. Under the right circumstances, freight transport by rail is more economic and energy efficient than by road, especially when carried in bulk or over long distances. This kind of trains needs to have a good drive equipment, and also a good brake equipment, because of the weight they can haul. This thesis pretends to make an overview by describing, calculating and analyzing the pneumatic brake system, from a fluid dynamic point of view, through a specific example of a flat wagon, located in the garage in Neukölln (Berlin).
