dc.description.abstract | In a previous work we have identified the key role played by the concept of cyclodissipativity in the solution of the power–factor–compensation problem for electrical circuits with general nonlinear loads and operating in nonsinusoidal regimes. Namely, we have shown that a necessary condition for a (shunt) compensator to improve the power transfer is that the overall system satisfies a given cyclodissipativity property. In this work, we extend the results of [1] proving that cyclodissipativity is actually necessary and sufficient for power–factor improvement.We prove in this way that cyclodissipativity provides a rigorous mathematical framework useful to analyze and design power–factor compensators. Moreover, we give an energy equalization interpretation of the power–factor–compensation problem. |
