Study and implementation of self-adaptive structures

A new and variable micro structure to change spatially and temporally the capacity of local heat removal through selfadaptive longitudinal vortex generators (LVGs) are studied in this project. The ideal solution is that LVGs move in function of substrate temperature. Therefore, it is very important to obtain the highest tip deflection of the micro structures to create more turbulence within a micro channel (MC) increasing the heat transfer between the coolant and the hot zone. The results show the highest tip deflection was achieved in bimetallic micro structures, approximately 50μm. However, in triangular micro structures the highest tip deflection was lower than 1μm. A comparison between all the designs was made to see the best self-adaptive structure within a MC to improve the heat transfer enhancement.
